In August, as the devastating events in Afghanistan were unfolding, I was packing my bags and saying goodbye to friends at the Kakuma refugee camp, in Kenya, the only home I have known for the last 11 years. Watching the chaos at the Kabul airport on television, I empathized with the many Afghans who were fleeing their country amid violence.
