In 1958, the U.S. Air Force accidentally dropped an atomic bomb on a family farm in rural South Carolina, leaving a 50-foot-wide crater. 3. The only army survivor of the Battle of Little Bighorn, AKA "Custer's Last Stand," in 1876 was a horse named Comanche, ridden by cavalry Captain Myles Keogh. Comanche's taxidermied body is now on display at the University of Kansas.
